Environmental allergy skin testing

Skin on arm or back is lightly pricked with a plastic device containing a drop of fluid representing the allergen.  After fifteen minutes, the localized skin reaction is measured.  There is little pain involved in this procedure.  We test various tree pollen, weeds, grasses, molds, dust mites and animals.

Food allergy testing

Skin testing and/or blood work may be done to diagnose food allergy.   Food allergy can occur at any age, from infancy to late adulthood.   Food allergy may affect eczema, cause hives/swelling reactions, may even by life threatening.  We have a wide variety to foods available for testing.

Drug allergy skin testing

Skin testing is also available for some medications, especially antibiotics.  Most people “lose” their allergy after avoiding the antibiotic for 10 years or longer.  Ask our office about antibiotic allergy skin testing.

Bee sting testing/injections

Skin testing or blood tests may be used to diagnose stinging insect allergy including honey bee, yellow jacket, paper wasp, yellow hornet, white faced hornet.  Venom allergy may be severe, even life threatening.  Venom allergy injections are a highly successful treatment option.

Allergy injections

Allergy immunotherapy – A series of subcutaneous injections, decreasing your sensitivity to environmental allergens, or insect venoms

Allergy patch testing

Some people experience itchy rashes on the face or other regions from chemicals in makeups, sunscreens, or from things such as fragrances, metals, etc.   To discover the potential allergen, a group of patches are taped to your back or arm and removed 48 hours later.

Spirometry

A test used to assess asthma control by measuring lung volumes

Peanut desensitization

OIT (oral immunotherapy)  Patients may be desensitized to peanut orally at our office. Please call for more details.
